“Birchbox or Glossybox?” It’s a question I’ve been asked many times. I am currently a subscriber of both, and since joining Glossybox in March, I’ve been trying to decide which box truly is the best value. Each box has their own pros and cons, but at the end of the day, there can only be one winner. So consider the gauntlet thrown, beauty bitches. Let’s watch these beauty boxes battle it out for the title of Best Beauty Box!*
It’s no secret that I adore Birchbox. Kérastase Resistance Ciment Thermique and Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream are just a couple fabulous products Birchbox introduced me to that I probably would not have discovered. The way I see it, Birchbox is your beauty matchmaker, and if they are doing their job right, you will 100% be back to purchase the full-size product. Nobody’s perfect though so here is a quick round up of Birchbox’s pluses and minuses.
|Birchbox Pros||Birchbox Cons|
|Just $10 per month||No skipping months|
|Features all luxury brand items||Full size products are few and far between|
|Beauty profile is 100% customizable||You don’t always get items that fit your profile perfectly|
|Shipping is free!||The wait list is ridiculously long|
|Reward points are super easy to earn; 100 points = $10 to redeem sitewide!||Pretty much no downside here!|
Real talk: The wait list for Birchbox is absolutely ridiculous. The fact that you have to wait a month just to get your invite, and even then, you have a short window to accept that invite is borderline elitist. Which is a joke considering this box is just 10 bucks a month. That being said, everything about Birchbox is a cinch. You can use your reward points on items that you aren’t likely to be discounted, and shipping is always free on products you’ve tried and loved. Plus, Birchbox coupon codes ain’t that hard to come by!
When my pal, Meredith, told me that “Glossybox is Birchbox on CRACK”, I knew that I had to give this box a shot. What I will say is this: Glossybox is totally Birchbox on that Lance Armstrong shit. But like Birchbox, Glossybox does have some downsides.
|Glossybox Pros||Glossybox Cons|
|No wait list||This is where Glossybox really shines. No minuses here!|
|Features a spectrum of high-end luxury brands and less expensive brands||For $21 a month, I want the best of the best, and you should too.|
|1000 Glossydots = free Glossybox||Earning Glossydots is a lot more work than earning reward points on Birchbox|
|Shipping is free!||It’s a draw on this one. Both boxes feature free shipping!|
|Loads of full-size products!||No personal beauty profile or customization|
Unlike Birchbox, Glossydots are not redeemable sitewide. In fact, you cannot buy products directly from Glossybox at all. You are lead straight to the merchant’s page. Bummer. Another downside that deserves more detail is the drugstore brands peppered in with luxury brands. I love me some Tresemme (Ooh La La!) just as much as the next girl, but not when I am paying $21 a month for samples. That being said, the full size items are awesome, and I’ve found myself using the ModelCo Cheek + Lip gel over and over again.
So who is the WINNER? You have to decide for yourself*. I know who my winner is, but what I find valuable in my favorite beauty box might mean zero to you! The point here is that both boxes are fabulous. Just be sure to do your research beforehand if you don’t want to end up with oodles of beauty products you don’t want. By the way, if you’ve learned anything about me so far, you know that I’d rather have more products than less!

*Spoiler alert: I like Birchbox better. 1000%. You didn’t really think I was going to pull a fast one on you, did you?
